Β» Sett was born during a difficult time in Ionia's history.
Sett's father was Noxian, while his mother was an Ionian Vastaya.
There have been no Vastayan births for over 180 years. Vastayan children aren't conceived or born in a manner typical to humans: they are born of wild magic, but as the treaty between humans and Vastaya in Ionia continues to be encroached on and abused, and magic is siphoned and drained by humans for selfish, reckless consumption, there isn't enough magic for the Vastaya tribes. Not even the Marai in the oceans, or Kiilash on the other side of the planet have reported new births.
Sett, as a half-breed, is not counted, as his birth was typical of a human birth, and he does not teem with the raw magical energy of true Vastaya.
Sett's mother is of a tribe of Wolverines, a particularly ferocious and fearsome tribe, and even among them, none dared speak out against Sett or his mother, for the human man his mother fell in love with--the Noxian--had such a reputation among the fighting pits in Navori, that even they held their tongue and said nothing to Sett or his mother on her betrayal to the Vastaya ways and the taboo his mother committed by falling in love with a human. Especially a Noxian. That didn't stop them from treating Sett and his mother differently, but while his father was around, they held their tongues and said nothing directly to the family. That was enough for Sett's mother: that her son was shielded from such cruel behavior.
One day while Sett was still young, without rhyme, reason, or warning, his father disappeared. As people caught on, Sett's mother struggled to find work. Even menial, hard-labor jobs among humans that most of them would have refused was now hard for her to come by. No vastaya would support his mother, and what tongues were stayed by the reputation of his father were no longer bound.
Half-breed was the nicest of all the comments he heard growing up. Being turned away from work or storefronts was the kindest treatment he and his mother received.
Humans tolerate Vastaya at best--with the treaties under pressure of collapse, Vastaya have become more hostile in protecting their sacred lands from human encroach, and so the Humans call Vastaya terrorists and extremists. Sett had too much Vastaya blood in him to be accepted among humans.
Vastaya neither trust nor care for the humans any more. Once they were shepherds and taught humans how to care for the land, but humans are taking the magic they and the planet need to live, and so humans are selfishly killing both them and the planet for their toys and convenience. Sett has too much human blood to be accepted among the Vastaya, and his mother deigned fall in love with one.
To add to their struggles, not many years after his father disappeared, Noxians officially invaded Ionia and started a war. Noxus sought to claim the living lands as their own to harvest it for its resources. Namely the magic that kept it alive. Sett, with known Noxian blood in his veins, was caught up in many fights. His mother, for having lain with one, many more.
His mother's grace and the people's treatment carved the shape of his heart, but nothing shaped who he would become so much as the fighting pits in Navori.
Sett found the pits on his own. It was a gladiatorial ring founded by Noxians who craved more blood sport than Ionia would give. No one cared who anyone was there, or what blood did or didn't flow in their veins. They cared only to watch it run freely and stain the walls. Sett entered his first battle there. He was used as fodder for the headlining fighter that night, and was meant to be just a warm-up act to get the crowds going, but Sett wouldn't go down. No beating was too much for his ferocious body, and he could dish out everything he took, two-fold at least. He took the prize-money home that night, and gave it to his mother in the morning. He didn't tell her how he got the money.
While grateful for the money, she saw his bruises and cuts, and she begged her son to promise her that he would never turn to the fighting pits for money. He promised her that he wouldn't.
The money was too good, though, and he was so happy to see his mother know peace that he, of course, made a career as a fighter at the pits.
After Ionia defeated Noxus and the war was declared over, many more flooded into the pits--Ionians that once abhorred the sport found they still craved violence and bloodshed to soothe whatever ache in their souls the war had left. It wasn't Sett's business why they were there, really. His business was bloodshed, and business was booming. He rose to the top. Went from teenager to man in the pits, and learned about the ugly side of humanity. The things it drove good people to do, and how it turned bad people to worse people.
The day came where Sett realized the real money wasn't in being the top fighter in the ring, no no. No one brought home as big of a paycheck as the boss of the whole operation. The boss, of course, sat where he did because no one could beat his ass in a fight. The boss kept everyone else in line, and everyone knew that they had to listen to the boss, or else.
Sett challenged him for his seat, and ran his fist through any skull that stood in his way--including the boss'. The takeover was pretty easy for someone as ferocious as Sett, but it took him a few more years to pick up the minutiae of the logistics and have it all running perfectly smoothly again. Luckily, Sett's takeover came very close to the end of the Ionian and Noxian war, so there was no lack of bodies to be thrown around, and very few noticed any of the hiccups. If they did, no one ever said anything, and Sett made sure any issues were promptly resolved.
Before and after the takeover, Sett always brought home a bag of money for his mother to leave at her bedside. Every morning her relief was enough to warm his heart, though she always asked where the money came from. Sett made up a lot of jobs to soothe her heart, including construction and bouncer work. There was always a pang of guilt in his heart when she talked about how proud she was of her little boy, but knowing that his mother would never have to sully her hands with hard labor ever again was all he needed to be happy.
Personality:
Β» Scrappy with a side of Temper
Sett has Wolverine Vastayan blood in him, a tribe that's already notorious for their ferociousness, much like their real-world counterparts. Quick to anger, territorial, and vicious in a fight. They're not a tribe you'd want to cross.
Sett's mother even commented that he inherited her temper, as even as a young boy, Sett was quick to jump to the defense and pick fights with anyone that talked down to his mother. The comments and slurs hurled at himself left him baring his fanged teeth, but, with white knuckles, he slowly learned to brush them off. He didn't want to make a scene and make things harder on himself and his mother. But his mother sacrificed so much for him, worked so hard for him, and he knew, even at a young age, that it wasn't fair how his mother was treated for things she couldn't help and didn't ask for. He would not stand it to see anyone speak ill of her. He's picked way too many fights against people thrice his size for his mother's honor.
In Sett's story, "Big Head, Bad News," and in a lot of Sett's voice lines, we see that Sett's learned to hone this temper of his. Most of the names and slurs people throw at him to try and get a rise out of him end up getting laughed at. He's heard too many by this point that it's like rain on a glass window. He's actually become quite proud of himself for being a half-breed, as shown when he says: "I ain't no 'half-breed'... I'm a full breed, and I'm the only one." Though, that may be a case of reminding himself that he's not less-than just because he's not a full-blooded human or Vastaya. He has many buttons--including insulting his abilities, authority, and wits--but so long as people keep his mother's name out of their mouths, he tends to dismiss and brush people off. Or perhaps it's just that a scowl from him is all it takes to make them shut that hole in their face and remember their place, so he lets it go as long as it doesn't happen again. His employees show a lot of faith and trust in him, but they definitely fear crossing him.
We also see in "Big Head, Bad News," that while Sett knows when to calm his temper, Sett also knows when he needs to put his money where his mouth is, and he does so with no hesitation, absolute confidence, and no mercy. He knows how any why to make an example of someone. He knows when he has to make a point out of a big talker--even if it's his star fighter and biggest money maker running their mouth--and when to walk away, so he has matured and reigned in some control over his emotions quite a bit. He doesn't keep his spot at the top for no reason.
Unfortunately, when it comes to business and they've pushed him to the point of a fight, he's not going to stop until someone's dead. Sett has an image to maintain as the head honcho of a fighting pit. He's grabbed swords bare-handed and whipped people around like rag-dolls by their swords, and he's got the scars to prove it.
That said, just because Sett's a brute and can crack skulls doesn't mean he abuses his power or authority, as shown by his line, "I don't like hurtin' people. I like the money I get from hurtin' people." He uses the money he makes to take care of his family and employees. Those who show him kindness and respect get such in turn--even Vastaya and Noxians get shown basic courtesy, despite his issues. As long as they mind their manners.
"You know, my mom's a Vastaya. That's the only reason I ain't stomped you yet."
"You Noxians ain't all bad. You ain't all good, either."
"You know the deal, Noxus. Stay outta my business, and I stay outta yours."
Β» Passion and Courage
Passion comes in many forms.
At its worst, it embodies bitterness and anger. Many of Sett's voice lines and quotes in-game reference his father, and how he's never forgiven him for the position he left him and his mother in. We learn that Sett found out his father participated in the very fighting pit he now runs. We learn that he saved up all of his winnings not to look after Sett and his mother, as a good father should, but instead so his father could buy out his contract with Noxus and go somewhere else. Where, Sett doesn't know. But he, to this day, sticks by his promise that if he ever sees his father, he'll beat him to a bloody pulp for what he did. His voice lines reference a low-key bitterness towards other Vastaya for how they look down on him and treat him for being part human. They reference a bitterness towards humans for how they treat him for being part Vastaya.
"Look at you! Old blood Vastaya! You too good for me? Huh?"
"My old man ran off. You'd be smart to do the same."
"Hey, Bilgerat. You see my pop? He'd be a scumbag like you."
"Hey, you're Noxian, just like my pa. I'll try not to hold it against ya."
It can also be a source of strength and growth, and a force for good. Sett's initial drive to fight was for his mother. Her strength inspired him, and he has such respect and love for her that he does not tolerate anyone talking ill of her. He puts himself in the line of danger in the fighting pits--where the only way out of a fight is by dying--so he can bring home money to take care of her. So she doesn't have to go hungry, so she can wear nice things and feel loved and appreciated as she aught to be. He turns his anger into drive. True though he does still hate his father, his drive to prove that they don't need his father, and his love for his mother was what pushed him to rise through the ranks in the fighting pits. And his promise to be careful was what pushed him to stage a take-over of the fighting pits so he wouldn't be the one risking his neck any more.
With enough time, he faked it til he made it, and his bravado turned to earnest confidence.
"It ain't how many times you get knocked down. It's how many times you get back up."
"Well... when life gives you lemons, punch life in the throat."
"You think I got where I am by listening to people?"
"Nothin' people hate more than a guy who makes somethin' of himself."
This man faced down death every night in gladiatorial combat, came out alive, and came out on top. He took over the heart of a nebulous business, as a fighting pit isn't just slamming two bodies together in bloody combat. It's security, advertising, gambling, competition, laundering, maintenance, and many other small businesses and skills all rolled up neatly into the title of Navori Fighting Pits. He rose to the challenge of every fight every night, and didn't stop until he got to the very top.
Β» He's a 10, but..
As Sett says, he doesn't like to fight. He doesn't do it unless there's a need or reason to. He used to pick fights when he was younger and had so much anger at the world, but he's matured a lot. Sett doesn't like to see injustice, especially after what he's been through, but his time spent in the pit made sure he learned the hard way that the world isn't so black and white as it seemed when he was a kid. Sett can and will step in, but only to break up the situation. It's not his business how situations get resolved when he's not around as long as business gets taken care of when he is around. He'll be a shoulder to lean on and help them on their feet again, but he isn't so naive as to get taken advantage of, or jump blindly in the middle of something, and he won't involve himself in someone else's fight unless death looks like it might come knocking. And even then, if they've ever said something nasty to him, well. His eyes are closed. He can be a petty like that.
His bravado...is cockiness a lot of times. He's a ham and show off. He talks big, and he's very proud of himself. In his eyes, he's earned it. It still comes off at times as having a chip on his shoulder against the world, cause whether he'll admit to it or not, he does still have said chip on his shoulder. He does still hate that he was treated as less than for no reason that he could help. He can be crude and arrogant and entitled, he can brush others off, but these behaviors, more often than not, are part of a weaponized facade. He knows there's a lot of people that are looking for any small crack in his armor that they can exploit to bring him down. To beat him and take what he fought hard to earn, so he cannot let weakness show. As such, he can still make womanizing or crude remarks, but when it comes down to it, his actions tend to speak louder than his words.
He's a mama's boy that drinks Respecting Women Juice. It's not outright stated so as the game can keep it's PG rating, but it's suggested that Sett's mother may have had to turn to prostitution in desperation to keep food on the table at times.
His mother is no waif. She's not a princess that needs saving. She's a pillar of strength and unyielding courage and love, and whom he tries to be like every day, while his father turned tail and ran to chase more ass somewhere else in the world. Sett would die before he hurt his mother, and he does hate that he has to break his promise to stay away from the fighting rings, but the money he brings in is too good, and nowhere else in the world would there ever be another environment so suited to Sett. It's become a positive outlet for his negative emotions, and shaped a lot of who he is today.
As such, while having his mother as a foundation of strength does lend to a healthy respect for women and a positive, morally aligned direction in his growth, he has a hefty amount of abandonment and trust issues, hence a drive to strive for control over himself and his environment around him. If he's at the top of the food chain in the fighting pits, he isn't at the mercy of the owners or crowds. He doesn't have to worry about money, or if he's going to die that night and leave his mother alone and grieving. HE is in control of the fights and the finances. The employees are loyal to him--partly because they fear him, but partly because he takes very good care of them.
Sett has had flings and affairs with others, as power comes with its perks, but for how much he dwells on the abandonment of his father and how poorly he and his mother are treated by both humans and vastaya, and how he's commented on having seen the ugly sides of both, he has a lot of trouble trusting others. Sett has had no known lovers, except for a Targonian man in a canon Alternate Universe.
Suitability:
Β» Sett has no previous experience with eldritch horrors--or The Void, as it's known in his universe--but he is a battle-hardened, exceptional fighter with supernatural strength.
He's a good front-line man. A heavy-hitter that won't bow down so easily to fear, not when he has something worth fighting for, like getting back home to his mother and enterprising business. He plays well with others...most of the time. He makes friends easily, though, and while he won't be willing to lay down his life for anyone here, and will remind others that they shouldn't be stupid enough to do that. Sett won't stop them if they really want to die that badly, though. But if they survive, he might be willing to do a little training with them.

Β» To translate that into the community:
- Sett mostly relies on brute force with kinetic energy and a small amount of Vastayan magic in combat.
- Sett has an exceptionally high regenerative ability. He's much less susceptible to illness, and heals much quicker than humans. Furthermore, it's stated in Sett's biography and color story, and by Riot, that he can take much more of a beating than a normal human. In fact, it's stated that that's exactly how Sett rose to power in the Navori fighting pits: he could take a beating like no one else, and still get back up swinging. In the heat of a fight, he doesn't show any response to pain, actually. Or if he does, it's little more than a snarl. Physical pain seems to get him more wound up into a frenzy during a fight, where he gets more and more wound up and excited for a fight.
- The more punishment he takes in a fight, the stronger he becomes. Not just because he gets excited and more vicious--it's not a bloodlust, and he doesn't lose control of himself, it's like watching him get to show off something he's been holding back all his life and keeping on a tight leash--but because of his vastayan magic. Sett can absorb the energy created by attacks thrown at him to strengthen himself, storing that energy to enhance his physical skills to better defeat his foes. Once he absorbs the energy, he can them release it in his attacks, creating destructive waves of energy through his punches and easily devastating all his foes nearby. This allowed him to go toe-to-toe with heavyweights, even as a young boy. This lines up with the documented ferocity of Wolverines in real life, wherein Wolverines have been seen killing the still-living megafauna: the moose.
- Sett can "pull" others towards him, immobilizing and rendering them defenseless using his vastayan magic, but it can only reach about a maximum of 3 feet outside of his wingspan.
- Sett can pull off pretty spectacular feats in a fight, and thrives in a brawl. For his size, he's quite agile, but that's due to his years of fighting. He has no particular discipline of fighting, but he has and does pick up techniques and tricks. In the canon Spirit Blossom AU, Sett had a teacher, but he abandoned the teacher very quickly out of lack of trust. In his champion spotlight and the website linked, it shows some of his signature moves.
The first signature move is Haymaker, wherein he gathers up energy into his fist and hits the ground hard enough that it sends a blast of kinetic energy in a fan-shape across the ground in front of him. Anyone standing in the peripheral won't take nearly as much damage as anyone standing directly in line with his fist. It also sends a small local shockwave out.
Showstopper is his second, and he's very capable of picking up minotaurs that easily quadruple his weight to throw around like ragdolls. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Beyond that, he's a brawler through and through, and his years in the pits show in his savage style. His Vastaya powers are passive since he's only a half-blood.
Other half-blooded Vastaya like Nidalee are able to shapeshift, much like full-blooded Vastaya can, but half-bloods can't permanently alter or hold those forms. Aside from glowing during fights or his accelerated healing, Sett has not shown any active ability to alter his appearance. However, since his accelerated healing and exceptional combat abilities are due in part to his vastayan blood, and those abilities do require magic, there will be consequences to tapping into these abilities, even the passive healing ability.
First and foremost, to fuel his accelerated healing and provide some fuel for his magics, he has one hell of an appetite, much like Goku from Dragonball Z. This also lines up with how gluttonous and ravenous Wolverines are in real life.
Secondly, the longer he fights and his magic is used, it sends him further and further into a frenzy wherein he craves bloodshed, and that bloodshed will fuel his magic. The deeper into this frenzy he gets, the harder it is to make him stop fighting. He does not see enemies or allies and will attack anything within reach, unless there are particularly strong emotional ties that might make him hesitate. In a sense, he's much like The Hulk in the early Avengers movies made with Disney. If he stays in that state for too long, or doesn't rest and recover properly between instances, he just might forever remain a frenzied beast. There will be stages of permanent symptoms leading up to being locked in that state. Furthermore, the longer he is left in that state, the longer it will take for him to recover and come back to his baseline personality.
Entity Affinity:
Β» The Lonely.
- Sett has trust and abandonment issues due to his father, and likewise holds the love and memory of his mother very near and dear, and losing her in any capacity of the word would be absolutely devastating to Sett since she's been the center of his world. Other men and women(as Sett is canonically bisexual) have come and gone, but through everything, his mother has always been a pillar of stability.
I think he could feed The Hunt better, though, especially considering what happens when he taps into his magic. So I may very well leave it up to the mods' discretion, depending on other curses the team would prefer to add or tack on to what I have.

[ Sett's fur stood up on the back of his neck, and his golden gaze cut over the thundering crowd to search for that pleasant little hum of energy that just couldn't stop singing to him. He knew that particular feeling, and how it called to him.
Old blood was here. ]
'Scuse me a minute, ladies, I've got somethin' to tend to.
[ He untangled himself from the women nestled on either side--he couldn't help but laugh under his breath at how they complained about the sudden chill when he got up. For a brief moment, he considered they cared more about sapping his body heat than any of the other perks being his arm candy could offer.
One of his doormen met him halfway down one of the back hallways, having already been en route to let Sett know he had some special visitors. ]
It ain't too often we get old blood through here--they usually stay away from here. 'Cept the Kiilash. [ He snorted with a hearty laugh. ] But they ain't in town right now. What's the deal?
[ Ryo regaled that it was a very widely known couple of full-blooded Vastayans that had come to visit, The Charmer and The Rebel. Sett brushed at the corner of his mouth with a thumb, and something like irritation and exasperation rolled across his face. ]
Those two, huh? What's a couple of bird-brains doin' down in the pits? 'Nothin' here for 'em. [ His brows raised at Ryo's reply, and a small thanks was made to himself for having such a prompt crew that he wouldn't have to go into a situation blind. ] A deal? Pf--Hah, that's a first.
Go get the ladies in my box settled in elsewhere, and get Tachikoma to whip up a special plate for our guests. I'll go down and meet 'em at the door.
If they start anything, just round up staff and get the fighters out'a the way. [ Sett knew the reputation of those two. They were known far and wide across Ionia, and he didn't want to lose any money cause one of his fighters thought they could show off for a little extra coin and take on a pretty, harmless looking little lady and her twink of a boyfriend. Knowing those two, if anyone tried that, chaos would break out in his rings, and he really didn't want to have to waste his time over something that stupid and put everyone back in line. It was bad for business.
It was just better that he go down and meet them himself. Polite and all of that, not to mention if anyone irritated his guests, he could set them straight on the spot, himself. ]

Hey so I might've gotten guilt tripped into running supplies for some lady throwin a feast, and I might be kinda new here, so I might be kinda lost. Anyone think they can lend a hand?
I might've also taste tested a little bit of the supply, but don't tell anyone. ;)
Oh and has anyone done that tarot reading thing yet? I'm pretty sure most of that stuff in this world's a load of crap, but it looks pretty fun. I wanna give it a go sometime. Who's in?
